(1). Please tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Djuju Anthony, I started Discus in 1998-99 and back then I started with breeding Discus directly. I've always kept fish since I was small and Discus is one of my pet fish.

(2). From the medals and certificates you displayed, looks like it you are very active participating in iscus competition ?

Since the year 2000 I've always joined Discus competition wherever it is, and with every participation my fish always won awards. I enjoyed joining competition because during the competition you get to meet with new and old friends and on top of that you get to learn a lot about Discus from other breeders. This is what I treasure the most when I go and join competition.

(3). What kind of strains do you breed ?

I breed mostly Leopard and Leopard Snake Skin. Though, I do breed other strains such as Red Melon, Blue Diamond,Fineline Snakeskin and Golden, but they are not that many compare to my Leopard and Leopard Snake Skin, I've been breeding these two strains since the first time I feel in love with Discus.

(4). Do you export your Discus?

My main market is the export market, though locally I do sell some of my Discus too. I have exported to USA, Europe, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam. I only sell high quality Discus as I have high standard of taste when it comes to quality, as you can see with the number of wins I have in competition around the world.

(5). Do you get involved in the day to day activity of your farm ?

My brother is responsible in the day to day running of the farm and he overlooks to their breeding and raising them. I mostly do the marketing and selection work.

(6). You mentioned that the most enjoyable moments for you when joining competition is hanging out with your Discus friends, do you have lots of Discus friends ?

Yes, I have many Discus friends around the world and most of them are well known breeders in their respective countries. We do share a lot of information about Discus when we meet up in the competition arena. We always keep in touch with one another and keep updating one another what is going on in the Discus world.

Some of my friends are people like Bing Seto, Wayne Ng, Derg Bergen, Kitty and many many more.

(7). What are the Discus competitions you have you participated before ?

I've participated in Duisburg (Germany), Aquarama (Singapore), National Discus Competition in Singapore and National Discus Competition Malaysia.

(8). Have you ever been become a judge in a Discus competition before ?

Yes, I've been invited before to judge Discus competition in Singapore and Japan. In the year 2001 and 2002

(9). Do you consider yourself as a trader, breeder or exporter ?

I consider myself first and on top of the list as a Discus hobbyist, because if I don't have love for Discus I won't be doing what I am doing now. I love Discus very much.

Secondly I consider myself as a trader as my brother is my breeder, so we both have got responsibility to take of, that way he can focus on Discus and I can focus more into the selling side of things.

(11). Did you participate in 2005 Aquarama Discus competition ?

I was planning to participate this year, but all my contest quality stocks have been sold away, so I'm left with no Discus to bring for the competition.

(12) I notice that you are culturing worms what are they for ?

Those worms are called "Hongkong Worms", they are highly nutrious live food. I'm culturing them for my arowana and louhan.

Webmaster's Note:

I really would like to thank Mr. Djuju for taking the time to contribute to this website. He is what I coined as "Super Duper Hobbyist" as he is a man of dedication and personality, as can be seen from his winnings in several major Discus competitions. His achievement in ALL the major Discus competition is beyond any description, and personally I believe nobody can come remotely close to his achievement. During the interview I also learned a lot about the who's who in the Discus world and the Discus trade side of things. He knows who is buying what Discus from where. His network of contacts with the major breeder in the world is really amazing. Even during the interview he was getting calls from discus breeders and importer from other country. Good job Mr. Djuju, we are very very proud of you.
